Options: The Science of the Art
Saturday, December 1, 2012 09:00 MST » 11:00 EST
Our guest speaker for the Saturday, December 1st DTG meeting will be Joel Greenberg. Joel has spent over forty years in the Financial Services Industry and, until July 2007, he was Microsoft’s liaison to that entire sector, focusing on Risk Management. Joel’s presentation is designed to expose where he believes the real power to capitalize on market opportunities lies.
Flexibility in trading begins with the knowledge and skill to trade multiple asset classes. This allows the trader to take advantage of different opportunities at various times of the day and night. The behavior of these asset classes: Stocks, Currencies, Futures and Commodities varies as foreign and domestic markets open and close and, as relevant local news helps to provide direction and momentum. Applying this knowledge is the art. Leveraging it is the science. That leverage is provided by options. Practically every major asset class has options available to trade. Options provide the opportunity to produce income as well as grow wealth in a comparatively controlled fashion. The real power lies in the capability of various options strategies that allow for profiting in up trends, downtrends and consolidating markets, as well as to protect and adjust positions to the traders benefit. This session will illustrate how that can be accomplished using current market conditions. Joel will cover:
- Equities, Futures and, FOREX for comparison
- Basic options definitions for different market conditions
- Are you an options buyer, seller, or both?
- Options pricing and volatility
- Why you were correct and still lost
- How to use options to: generate income, hedge, build wealth
- Portfolio building and maintenance
His intent is to demystify options and give you something you can use to build on.
